Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information The Candid Date ("we," "us," or "our") collects when you visit thecandiddate.com (the "Site"), how we use it, and the choices you have. The Site is operated by thecandiddate inc. It is a free resource with dating advice, research and reviews of dating sites and apps. We do not offer visitor accounts, dating profiles or messaging.

Information we collect

When you browse the Site. Like almost every website, our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the page you requested and the time of the request. This is needed to deliver pages to you and to keep the Site secure.

Campaign cookie. If you arrive through a link that carries campaign tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term or utm_content), we store those tag values in one first-party cookie named tcd_utm for up to 90 days. The cookie holds only those tag values. It does not contain your name or contact details, and it is not set if you arrive without campaign tags.

When you click a link to a partner. When you click a "Visit Site" link to a dating site or app, we record a random click ID, which partner and which link you used, the page you came from, the campaign tags described above (if any), your browser's user-agent string, and a one-way hash of your IP address. We do not store the IP address itself in these records.

When you contact us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write.

We do not use analytics services, advertising cookies or tracking pixels, and we do not ask for sensitive information such as your dating preferences, sexual orientation or health information.

How we use information

• To deliver the Site, fix problems and protect it against abuse.
• To count and reconcile referrals with our partners, who may pay us a commission when a visitor we refer signs up.
• To understand which pages and campaigns lead visitors to partners, so we can improve our content.
• To answer your messages.
• To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Use.

When you leave our Site

When you follow a link to a partner, we may add the random click ID to the link so the partner can tell us that a referral came from our Site. The click ID does not identify you by name. Once you are on the partner's site, its own privacy policy and cookies apply, and we do not control what it collects.

How we share information

• Service providers that host and run the Site (for example hosting, database and email providers) process information on our behalf and only for that purpose.
• Partners receive only the random click ID described above.
• Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our visitors, us or others.
• Business transfers. If the Site is sold or merged, information may be transferred to the new owner under this policy.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising.

How long we keep information

We keep click records only as long as we need them to reconcile commissions with partners and to review how the Site performs. We keep emails as long as we need them to handle your request. Technical logs kept by our hosting providers are deleted according to their own schedules.

Your choices and rights

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The Site works without the tcd_utm cookie.

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia and other US states), you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or of targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of today. Because we do not do these things, browser signals such as Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track do not change how the Site behaves.

To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your request before we act on it, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law (for California residents, 45 days). You may use an authorized agent. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our answer. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

Children

The Site is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access to our systems limited to our staff, and hashing of IP addresses in click records. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Where information is processed

We are based in British Columbia, Canada. The Site is intended for visitors in the United States. Information may be processed in Canada, the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

Canadian privacy law

We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act, where they apply. Our privacy officer is responsible for how we handle personal information and can be reached at [email protected]. You may ask to see, or to correct, the personal information we hold about you. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the effective date above, and if the changes are significant we will post a notice on the Site.
