Latter Day Matchmaker Helps Latter-Day Saints in Utah and Beyond Find Love

The Short Version: Amy Seal founded, and serves as CEO of, Latter Day Matchmaker, which offers matchmaking to singles in the Church of Jesus Christ. She and her team work with men throughout the United States who want a committed relationship with someone of the same faith. The service offers a proprietary nationwide database, relationship coaching, and support at every stage of dating.
Matchmaking has a long, complicated past that can be traced to ancient China and India. Dating, relationships, and matchmaking itself have all changed over the centuries and up to today, yet matchmaking is still a valuable tool for many communities.
Around the world, religious groups and communities continue to value matchmaking. It can make it easier for like-minded singles who share a faith identity to find committed relationships.
That’s exactly what Amy Seal does for Latter-day Saints. Latter Day Matchmaker, her company, is a traditional boutique service that matches Latter-day Saint (LDS) singles nationwide.
Amy shared with us how Latter Day Matchmaker got its start and how it guides LDS members through dating and relationships all the way to marriage.
“In our community, we believe in marrying for eternity,” Amy said. “So instead of till death do us part, we’re thinking about beyond death. We believe we’re going to be with this person forever, so it can feel like an overwhelming dating experience at times.”
A Boutique Service for Singles Seeking Marriage
Amy’s career before matchmaking was in executive recruiting and human resources. “I think that background was a great fit to transition to a matchmaker,” she said. “I discovered matchmaking and felt inspired by it.”
She began setting up friends and coworkers informally after hours and realized the work suited her perfectly.
“I had that passion to bring people together, and I was single at the time, so matchmaking just felt so compelling and exciting. When I’m passionate about something, I really go for it.”

Amy works with single Latter-day Saints both in Utah and nationwide.
After founding Latter Day Matchmaker in Utah, Amy surrounded herself with dating coaches and fellow matchmakers who support her.
Singles who sign on with Latter Day Matchmaker get a service that provides holistic support from the first introduction onward.
The service works with singles all over the U.S. “The predominant religion in Utah is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so my niche is serving members of that community, and we have people worldwide of that faith,” Amy explained. “About half my clients live outside of Utah.”
Amy’s In-House Database Links Church Members
Amy’s clients and database members have varied backgrounds, but they all share the goal of a marriage within the Church of Jesus Christ. Since matchmaking doesn’t suit everyone, Amy and her team help potential clients figure out whether it’s a good fit.
“Our dating coach, Alisa Snell, has a whole curriculum called the Lasting Love Academy,” Amy said. “She’s also my screener. When someone wants to be a matchmaking client, they’ll contact her first and meet with her. She has a background as a therapist, so she can dig deep and ask those questions.”
Alisa gets to know prospective clients’ romance and relationship histories along with what they want going forward. If she believes matchmaking will work for them, they move on to the next stage of the process.

Every matchmaking client gets support from Amy and her team.
“By the time they get to me, I get to do the fun stuff,” Amy said. “Alisa has confirmed them for matchmaking, and now I’m confirming my questions, making sure they have reasonable expectations, and getting a feel for potential matches.”
Matchmaking takes some of the hassle out of dating, but clients still have to stay engaged the whole way. Amy said things go best when she truly understands the people she’s working with.
“It’s one thing to fill out a questionnaire, but it’s another to dig into what’s actually going on in your head.”
Both men and women can sign up for Latter Day Matchmaker’s proprietary database, and building a profile to become a matchable member costs nothing. VIP Matchmaking, the company’s full-service option, is open to male clients who are a good fit for the program.
Serving the Relationship Needs of Single Latter-day Saints
In the Church of Jesus Christ, marriage is central to both belief and culture, and Amy said that shapes the way a lot of LDS singles date. “It’s such an important decision, and I think sometimes that translates to going on a first date and overanalyzing it,” she explained.
Amy continued, “They jump ahead into the other stages of dating when they’re not even close to being in the first stage of dating. So they decide after a first date or interaction that it’s not for them when they really haven’t given it a chance to develop.”
You can’t truly know someone after a single date, and not every attraction is the instant ‘love-at-first-sight’ kind. Amy and her team encourage singles to remain patient and open-minded during introductions while they actively pursue a faithful marriage.

Amy urges LDS singles to keep an open mind about every way they might meet someone wonderful.
“Whatever our clients are struggling with in dating, we help them and address it,” Amy said. “For example, if someone is cynical, or has been divorced, and feels burned, we would help him open up, be warm and welcoming and inviting on dates.”
Clients of Latter Day Matchmaker have professionals around them and support at every stage. Amy said she knows how daunting dating can feel, with or without a matchmaker.
“Singles will come to me and say, ‘I don’t want to do online dating, I don’t want to meet someone at a Singles Ward,’ because it would be awkward and they’re nervous,” Amy said. “My advice would be to be open to any way of meeting your match and be open to trying everything.”
